COLOUR & CLAY
Choose a ceramic item and paint and decorate your way, then leave it with us for firing. You only pay for the item you paint. No experience needed.

Experience the joy of painting ceramics.
Choose a bisque-fired ceramic piece, then paint and decorate it in your own style.
We have a selection of unique ceramic pieces to choose from, along with a wide range of ceramic paints, brushes and everything you need to get creative. The paints are easy to use and dry quickly.
The price varies depending on the piece you choose! from 35€ – 65€.
Enjoy a relaxed two-hour session with no experience needed. The price includes your chosen piece, paints (glazes) and the final firing.
Once you’ve finished, leave your piece with us and we’ll glaze-fire it for you. Your finished treasure will usually be ready to collect in around two weeks. We’ll let you know when it’s ready.
When the pieces are ready you have
a thoughtful, personal and handmade gift for someone special ..or maybe just for you.

GLAZING SESSION
Paint/glaze your own ceramic work.
Includes final bisque glazing + final bisque firing. No experience needed.

- Studio time.
- A wide range of paints in different colours (brush on glazes +
a selection of dipping glazes) - Use of tools: brushes, stamps, decorations and more.

Each session has a maximum of
4 participants so there is time for guidance and support.
After glazing your pieces will be fired and you’ll receive a message when they are ready to collect
(about 2 weeks after the firing.

MEMBERSHIP
For those who want to come to
Open Studio regularly and make
clay part of their rhythm.
A membership gives you five (5) sessions to use whenever Open Studio is available on the booking calendar — 20 hours of clay.
As a member you get your own clay-card and you can book your clay-time several weeks in advance

HOW IT WORKS
BOOK
Whether you’re trying clay for the first time or already feel comfortable working with it, choose the workshop or session that suits you, book your time in Slotti and come to the studio (Vestanlidvägen 38 B).
WHEN YOU ARRIVE
Coming to The Clayground is simple, everything you need is here. Leave your shoes in the entryway. Choose an apron (and a pair of knitted socks, if you like). You´ll get your own space, you´ll be shown how the clay, tools and studio work and you will be guided through different techniques to help you get started and explore what you can create (unless you have booked Open Studio).
You’ll be given a lump of clay and then it’s up to you what happens next. Use your imagination and see what unfolds, or take inspiration from one of the templates available in the studio. There’s no right or wrong way to make (we don’t use pottery wheel here, only our hands). Start with an idea and see where it takes you. Please put the tools back when you don´t need them, so that others can use them.
CLEAN UP
We’ll take care of the cleanup afterwards. However, please remember that the plumbing doesn’t handle clay och glaze well; the pipes will clog if you wash your hands in the sink. That’s why there is a dedicated hand-washing station for muddy hands – please use it. Finish up with some hand cream, and why not give your hands a massage as a reward – job well done!
LET IT DRY (1-2 WEEKS)
Once your pieces are finished, they need some time to dry completely. They’ll stay on the studio shelf for around 1-2 weeks. (If the clay still contains water when going into the kiln, the clay may crack, and we don’t want that).
TIME FOR THE FIRST FIRING
When the pieces are completely dry they go into the kiln for their first firing. The studio handles this for you. After the bisque firing, your pieces are ready to be glazed.
GLAZING
All workshops and sessions include glazing. You can choose one glaze colour, and we’ll glaze your pieces for you. You don’t need to know anything about glazes beforehand — we’ll guide you through the options. (If you want to paint/glaze your own work you can book a GLAZING SESSION (10€) and come back to paint your pieces yourself using our Kiwi painting glazes, available in a full range of colours.)
THE FINAL FIRING
Once glazed, we dip them in transparent glaze and then your pieces go back into the kiln for their final firing. This is when the glaze gets its final shiny finish and your clay becomes a finished ceramic piece, ready for everyday use. You can eat and drink from your ceramic items, and they are dishwasher safe.
READY TO COLLECT
Once your pieces are finished, they’ll be ready for you to collect from the studio. Keep an eye out for our kiln-opening videos on Instagram to see if your pieces have made it through the firing. We can also send you a text message when they’re ready (if you let us know in advance, we can place your finished pieces in the small cabinet outside the studio, so you can collect them even outside regular studio hours). Then they’re yours to bring home. Now you have your own little pieces of ceramic art, handmade by you.
What is Grannskapa Studio?
Grannskapa Studio is a small creative community rooted in Skutnäs, Jakobstad. It began as an idea for a space not only just for making, but for pausing. A place where creativity could unfold without pressure. Today, Grannskapa Studio is a working clay studio, alongside my own work as a ceramic artist. It has also grown into something shared: A place where creativity belongs to everyone.
